Kiev City Excursions

City tour with transport

Duration: 3 hours
This tour will give you a great chance to become acquainted with the ancient city of Kiev. Our excursion with a professional guide starts from Old Kiev Hill (Vladimir´s Hill named in honor of Prince Volodimir, the baptizer of Kiev Rus). The hill is the place, where according to the chronicles, the first settlement of Kiev was established by 3 brothers: Kiy, Shcheck, Horiv and their sister Lybid in 482 A.D. On Vladimir´s Hill you will see a reconstruction of the basement of Decytinnaya Church (10th century), which was completely destroyed in 1240 during the Tatar-Mongol invasion. A nice example of Old Rus architecture rises above Volodimir´s Hill. From the Kiev of Old Rus we will then proceed to modern Kiev with visits to: the famous Kiev Opera House (1901), the Kiev National University (1837-43). We will drive along the main street of the city - Kreshchatik and hear the history of this famous street. Near the Arch of Friendship we will stop for a look at the magnificent view onto the Dniper river and onto one of the oldest regions of Kiev. We wind up the tour with a visit to the Museum of the Second World War which includes an exposition on military equipment.

Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra (with museums)

Duration: 4 hours
One of the most famous Kiev attractions was founded in 1051 by the monks Antoniy and Feodosiy for the expansion of Kiev´s new religion - Christianity. The complex of Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra Monastery includes the Nearby and Far-off caves , the Church of the Savior on Berestove, Holy Trinity Gate Church, St Nicholas´ Church and the Great Lavra Belfry, the highest in Ukraine (96,6 meters) as well as the fully reconstructed Assumption Cathedral. The majority of the structures were built in the Ukrainian Baroque style. The ensemble is built in harmony with the surrounding countryside and forms a beautiful and majestic silhouette of Kiev from the Dnipro river side.
Tour with museums: besides the panoramic tour of the Kiev Pechersk Preserve and Caves includes the Museum of Treasures, the Museum of Microminiature and the Bell Tower.

St. Sophia´s Cathedral

Duration: 2 hours
St. Sophia´s Cathedral, built in 1037, is the most vivid example of Old Rus architecture and monumental art. The Cathedral was built when the state of Kyiv Rus was at the peak of its prosperity. Here grand princes were crowned and buried, formal ceremonies and receptions of envoys were held, the first known library in ancient Rus and the first school for boys and girls were founded by Yaroslav the Wise. The Cathedral was known as a seat of the Kiev Metropolitan. The interior has survived from the 11th century and there have been practically no alterations. The building is full of mosaics and frescos dating from the 11th century and created using a unique technology. They depict Scriptural scenes, individual figures of Church Fathers, Apostles, warriors and maidens.

Tour to the open-air museum of wooden art Pirogovo

Duration: 4 hours
This National museum meant to preserve the culture of Ukrainian people, is located in the suburbs of Kiev in the town of Pirogivo. Three hundred ancient rural huts and cottages collected from all over Ukraine can be seen in Pirogovo. The majority of them were moved to the museum and then reconstructed. Huts, wooden churches, water and wind mills, also clothes, kitchen utensils dating back to the period of the 17th century and leading up to the beginning of the 20th century give visitors a realistic impression of Ukrainian village life at that time.

Visit to the memorial Babiy Yar

Duration: 2 hours
Babiy Yar must be the most sorrowful place in Kiev. Two monuments were erected here to keep alive the memory of the 33770 Jews who were killed here on the 29-30 of September 1941. One of the monuments was created in Soviet times and the other was erected in 1991.

Excursion to the State Aviation Museum

Duration: 3 hours
The State Aviation Museum of the Ukraine was opened in the autumn of 2003. It is situated in a very nice area of Kiev, not far from the Zhulyany city airport. Its exposition covers over 0.2 sq. km and includes more than 50 planes and helicopters. The aircraft were used in the USSR and by the Ukrainian Air Force or for civil aviation. The collection includes Tu-22 “Backfire” strategic bombers, the world largest Mi-26 helicopter, the world´s fastest combat intelligence aircraft MiG-25, flying three times faster than the speed of sound, and superlarge widebody Il-86 airbus. Visitors can enter into jet airliner and combat helicopter cockpits.
