The National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine

The National Museum of Medicine of Ukraine was created in 1973 in Kyiv. It is distributed in the building of the former Anatomical theatre of the Kyiv University, constructed in 1853 by the project of A. Beretti, the well known architect. The building is the architectural monument of the 19th century . Professor O. A. Grando, Doctor of Science in Medicine, the honoured scientist of Ukraine, is the museum founder and its Head.

The Museum represents medicine development in Ukraine from the oldest times till our days. The newest conception of the Museum Science was assumed as the basis for the Museum organization. It allowed uniting scientific-methodical materials, documents and exhibits in a complex with architectural, art-and-technical and audio-visual means. Besides the stand exhibition the original interiors were first created in the Museum with the portrait figures of the well-known scientists and physicians, and dioramas dedicated to the most outstanding events in Ukrainian medicine. The Museum exposition also widely presents the pieces of Ukrainian fine arts concerning medicine.

The Central Museum of Medicine of Ukraine is one of the largest medical museums not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe. The activity on the Museum creation was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine of 1983.
